Jaxtella has released his debut EP, Say Less, a soulful homage to the embattled yet culturally rich capital city where he spent most of his formative years. Trenton, NJ is the backdrop for this 4-track EP which vacillates between mellow and introspective. The project was created during an incredibly charged time in America which influenced the rousing feel of the title track. Featuring reggae artist Mashine, Say Less conveys the frustration and anger felt at the injustice of seeing another Black man die at the hands of the police with no repercussion. The EP confronts this societal ill head on, but also provides a respite with velvety, summer-like tunes that elicit memories of summertime in cities like Trenton where despair and creativity collide. This is Jaxtella’s first entry into Dnb after a successful (and active) open-format DJ career. For Jaxtella, hearing Roni Size’s New Forms as a young dnb fan was a transformative experience. He hopes to inspire the same excitement in others with his music. “The fusion of Hip Hop, Jazz and R&B, with Drum & Bass was everything I ever wanted, but didn’t know I needed. The production was masterful, soulful and energetic. I aspire to make music that provokes similar feelings.”
